Types of Visa



  • Visitor, Tourist and Transit Visas
    • Letter of confirmed hotel reservation.
    • Evidence of minimum of USD 2,000 traveler's cheque.
    • Confirmed ticket itinerary validated by travel agent.
    • Letter of invitation from Nigeria (if available) should be faxed to the High Commission prior to application of visa and applicant should also bring a copy during submission.
    • Two recent passport-sized photograph measuring 52mm x 52mm against white background.
    • Photocopy of passport.
    • All the above-mentioned documents should be in two sets.


  • Business/Education/Religious Visas
    • Letter of invitation from the company in Nigeria.
    • Letter from local employer stating the purpose of trip to Nigeria with details of the applicant's designation with the company, duration of stay, whether all expenses are covered by the local company.
    • Flight itinerary/flight ticket.
    • Two photographs measuring 52mm x 52mm against white background.
    • Passport photocopies.
    • Certificate of incorporation of the Nigerian company.
    • All documents should be in two sets.


  • Temporary Work Permit (TWP)
    • Letter of invitation from the company in Nigeria.
    • Letter from local employer stating the purpose of trip to Nigeria with details of the applicant's designation with the company, duration of stay, whether all expenses are covered by the local company.
    • Cablegram conveying requisite authorization of twp from the Comptroller General of Immigration.
    • Flight itinerary/flight ticket.
    • Two photographs measuring 52mm x 52mm against white background.
    • Photocopies of standard passport.
    • Academic qualification duly endorsed by the appropriate authority.
    • Police report stating the applicant does not have a criminal record.
    • All documents should be in two sets.


  • Subject To Regularization (STR)
    • 5 copies of duly completed immigration form imm.22.
    • Copy of expatriate quota approved by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
    • Letter of offer of employment to the expatriate.
    • Letter of acceptance of offer employment by the expatriate.
    • Police report which confirms that the expatriate does not have criminal records or pending court case(s).
    • 5 copies each of educational certificates duly endorsed by appropriate authority.
    • 5 photographs taken against white background without cap or head gear, measuring 52mm x 52mm.
    • Photocopies of passport (5 copies).


Emergency Travel Certificate

  • Sworn affidavit before either a Magistrate or High Court in Malaysia about the loss of passport.
  • Police report about the loss of passport.
  • Possession of a Nigerian driver's license or a letter of recommendation/acceptance of liability from a Nigerian who is registered in the Mission with valid resident permit in Malaysia. The recommendation should include known resident address in Nigeria, and accompanied with two passport photograph measuring 52mm x 52mm, a copy of his or her standard passport.
  • A confirmed one-way ticket.
  • A police certificate indicating that applicant is not under police investigation of pending court cases(s).
  • Two passport-sized photographs measuring 52mm x 52mm of applicant with white background.
  • Mandatory payment of Rm300.00 emergency travel certificate.


Marriage Declaration

  • Letter from Nigerian groom stating single status (bachelor) addressed to the Nigeria High Commission.
  • Letter of application to the High Commission for declaration of marriage by both parties to the marriage.
  • Letter of acknowledgement from bride-to-be stating that she is consenting to the marriage. Should attach photocopy of passport or i/c.
  • Photocopy of identity card of bride-to-be and photocopy of first four passport pages of Nigerian groom.
  • Two passport-sizes photograph measuring 52mm x 52mm of applicant with white background from both parties.


Endorsement of Documents

  • Covering letter from the company requesting for endorsement of their documents addressed to the High Commission.
  • All relevant documents/certificates to be endorsed for export purpose should first be authenticated by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Health before submission to the High Commission.
  • A certificate of analysis/composition of product being exported should be authenticated by the Controller of Drugs of the Ministry of Health, along with the documents for endorsement.


Re-issuance of Standard Passport

This is to inform members of the Nigerian communities in Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam that the High Commission will, with immediate effect, commence the collection of applications for re-issuance of passports for onward transmission to the issuing center, Consulate-General of Nigeria, Hong Kong. This is to alleviate the current difficulties faced by Nigerians resident in the two countries. Accordingly, the following categories of Standard Passport would be considered for re-issuance:
  • Re-issuance of expired Standard Passport, after the mandatory 10-year life span
  • Re-issuance of Standard Passport with exhausted visa pages; and
  • Issuance of new Standard Passport to children of Nigerian parent(s), born in Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam


Missing Passports

Applicants for replacement of missing passports must however, forward their requests, together with the necessary documents, to the Comptroller General of Immigration in Abuja for further necessary action.


Guidelines for Re-issuance of Standard Passports

  • Four passport size photographs measuring 52mm x 52mm against a white background without headgear.
  • Duly completed application form in block letter with black biro.
  • Photocopy of old passport, including the data page.
  • Bank draft for USD$40.00 only, from HSBC Bank, made payable to: Consulate-General of Nigeria, Hong Kong.
  • For new babies, photocopies of original and the translation of their birth certificates, photocopies of father/mother passport, letter of authority from father/mother.
